Water Purification

What is Water Purification ?

Water purification is the removal of contaminants from raw water to produce drinking water that is pure enough for human consumption. Substances that are removed during the process of drinking water treatment include bacteria, algae, viruses, fungi, minerals, and man-made chemical pollutants. Many contaminants can be dangerous—but depending on the quality standards, others are removed to improve the water's smell, taste, and appearance.

Water Purification through Reverse Osmosis

Reverse osmosis is sometimes referred to as hyper filtration because it involves the movement of water through a membrane. The membrane has microscopic openings that allow water molecules, but not larger compounds, to pass through. Proper maintenance is essential to retain effectiveness over time. Some units are equipped with automatic membrane flushing systems to clean the membrane.

Water Purification through Distillation

Water distillers produce highly treated and disinfected water for drinking, cooking and other household uses. The distillation process removes minerals and microbiological contaminants and can reduce levels of chemical contaminants. Distillers are using electrical energy to purify the water. Distilling water is also a very slow process. Normal domestic distillers produce about 4 liters of water every 6 hours.

Water Purification through Active Carbon

Activated carbon filters are the most often used filters in water purification. Carbon filter are either filters on their own, or in combination with other methods like reverse osmosis or distillation. Water pitchers with filter like the Britta brand are well known to most customers. Active carbon filter come different types of media. Block filters, granular carbon filter. Active carbon filter work through a process called absorption.
