Iron Removal with Birm
Birm Iron Filter
Birm Iron Filters can remove up to 10 ppm of both ferric (oxidized) and ferrous (clear) iron and 5 ppm of manganese. Birm is an aluminum silicate media coated with manganese dioxide. This coating is highly concentrated with oxygen and acts as an insoluble catalyst to enhance the reaction between dissolved oxygen and the the iron compounds. In essence, the dissolved iron is oxidized at the surface of the media into a rust particle that can be effectively filtered from the water.
Iron Removal with Pyrolox™
Pyrolox™ is a granular water filtration media used for the removal of hydrogen sulfide, iron and manganese. Through a natural chemical reaction, Pyrolox™ has the ability to help you produce clean, high-quality water. Pyrolox works because of a catalyst reaction whereby hydrogen sulfide, iron, and manganese are oxidized on the media. Daily backwashing then flushes trapped particulate from the filter bed. Pyrolox™ is a natural mineral form of manganese dioxide, making it an environmentally sound means of water filtration.
Iron Removal with KDF Media
KDF® Process Media are high-purity, granulated copper and zinc-based alloys that treat water through a process based upon the principle of redox (Oxidation-Reduction). Originally, KDF was shorthand for Kinetic Degradation Fluxion. We can explain redox like this: KDF Fluid Treatment’s unique combination of copper and zinc creates an electro-chemical reaction. During this reaction, electrons are transferred between molecules, and new elements are created. Some harmful contaminants are changed into harmless components.
