HOW DOES WATER CONTAMINATION OCCUR ?

Water easily dissolves a vast range of contaminants. Therefore, many sources    of our drinking water could be literally loaded with hundreds of potentially harmful contaminants that have long-term adverse effects on our health. Laboratory test and studies have  identified many chemicals present in drinking water. They could have originated in pesticides ,weed killers, in factory waste, air and traffic pollution. Despite new  environmental-protection regulations, industrial waste and municipal sewage are still one of the main reasons for drinking water contamination. Where or what ever  they come from, the impurities gradually find their way into lakes and rivers as well as groundwater sources. From there, they enter into our domestic water supplies, creating  a threat to our health and well being.

Recently  a heavy metal have been found in our drinking water. It was lead. In many older houses and city pipelines water is still distributed in lead pipes. The more corrosive the water is, that stays in contact with a lead pipe the more of this toxic metal it absorbs.

Lead can impair the reproductive and central nervous systems. It will increase blood pressure and can affect hearing, high levels of exposure will cause anemia and kidney damage. Lead has also been linked to behavioral problems, learning disabilities and stunted growth. Children, because of their smaller body size, are even more sensitive. Bottle-fed infants may absorb as much as 85% of water-dissolved lead. Many hazardous substances dissolved in water accumulate in our bodies and cause long-term chronic diseases. Lead is only one of more than eight hundred harmful and potentially poisonous chemicals found in drinking water. Many other contaminants are picked up by water during its journey through often old municipal pipe networks.
